Review from a Boise High School student:

“Boise High School is the most diverse school academically, culturally, and artistically in the Treasure Valley. Under recent developments, the school has just finished remodeling the old gym building, expanding resources for the fine arts, as well as creating a new designated spot of school pride and spirit. Students are encouraged to utilize the plethora of classes offered, from STEM dominated areas of computer science and AP mathematics, to elective of interest such as astronomy and psychology. Additionally, Boise High's campus resides in downtown Boise, providing students access to fantastic food and social spaces across the board. I believe it's the teachers and other Boise High staff, Boise High students, and outside contributors that allow this school to thrive as a coherent, supportive, and elevated community. Beginning in August, I am beyond excited to take on senior year, and enjoy Boise High School for one last, golden year.”

Review from a Timberline School parent

“This is a top-notch high school, one you will want to apply to have your child attend if you are in another Boise school district area. Here are some things I appreciate about THS, as a parent: 1. Academics. In every department there are nationally awarded teachers, many with advanced degrees. Your child will find out quickly who these teachers are. Request those teachers at registration time; the counselors are awesome at honoring requests, if there is a good reason for them. Not all requests are accepted, of course. 2. Environment for growing up. As a teacher myself, I've seen other local high schools (such as Boise) where all students don't feel welcome, where they dread going to school every day. At THS, there are typical issues like at any school. However, the counselors and administration are very keen on helping all students succeed, not just the AP students. 3. Resources for parents. I appreciate the outreach of the Career Center in particular for keeping parents informed about what is important for their children. Lori Lodge in particular is so great at keeping us informed. I would recommend Timberline to ANYONE in Boise!”

Summary: Timberline is a school that keeps its students as a top priority. Students graduate from this school with a high rate of success, due to the dedication the teachers put into their work. Parents who wish to provide their children with a successful high school experience should consider this school.

“I loved going to Capital. It was a great place for both academics and athletics. I always had teachers that were helpful and supportive, and there were a wide range of both traditional and AP courses available for me to take. On top of a wide variety of classes, there were many different electives available as well. I chose to take Creative Writing 1-4 at Capital, and this class taught me how to not only write creatively, but give me the skills I would need for other classes. I also played softball at Capital, and it was a great experience. I started going to camps put on by the varsity coach when I was 8, and that experience made me want to go to Capital when I was old enough so that I could play for that coach. That continued all the way through my senior year of high school, and I learned so many things and made lifelong friends because of the softball program.”

Summary: Capital Senior High is a school that has a high focus on athletics while still maintaining a good academic balance. They have a great teacher ratio and they rank well for college prep.

“I have enjoyed attending Borah High School. Five years ago my family moved to Boise, Id from a small town in Oregon. Borah High has a lot of cultural diversity, and allows their students to become individuals. I have played basketball for four years with the Borah Lions and its pushed me to grow as an athlete. Our team considers itself a family, the coaches care about us as individuals not just as players and our student body always comes out in big numbers to support us. Our college and career counselor has gone out of her way to make sure parents and students know of all the opportunities that are out there for scholarships, applications, deadlines and etc. Borah High School staff members care about their students and do everything to see us succeed. I would recommend Borah to any of my friends & family, to experience being a Borah Lion is one that will be memorable.”

Frank Church High School

Review from a former Frank Church student

“The School is amazing a lot of people think it’s meant for “bad kids” but it’s no where close to that. Students that come here have more real-life experience then any other students they come here to try to prove they aren’t what they are put out to be. The teachers are always making sure you are mentally and physically stable to be in class they offer lots of help if you don’t understand and realize school isn’t just about learning it’s about improving your life in general.”

Summary: Frank Church is a school that values the students' lives and academics. Each student is given individual attention, and the teacher-to-student ratio demonstrates this. The school does not score as high for testing as other schools, but the ongoing support and guidance they give to students makes up for it. Frank Church is a school where you feel important.
